This is the Polish version of a publication published in German in 2005, which is a summary of the results of many years of Polish-German cooperation between the Museum für Lackkunst in Münster and the Wilanów Palace Museum in the field of research on the activities of Martin Schnell, the court painter of August II the Saxon. Among the artists of the first half of the 18th century, he became famous as a master of exotic decorations imitating Japanese lacquer. Using the example of the wainscoting of his Chinese Cabinet preserved in the Wilanów Palace and the furniture belonging to it, a thorough comparative analysis of motifs drawn from Eastern iconography and used in different decorative arrangements composed for the needs of the royal court was carried out. This process created a new artistic value, close to the European audience. Martin Schnell's mastery is manifested in the ability to preserve the subtle charm of eastern motifs thanks to the use of appropriate painting techniques and a high level of various painting technologies. The book is an innovative publication not only in terms of the topic discussed, but also thanks to the rich illustrative material defining the characteristic features of this artist's output, allowing for accurate identification of his works.
